Description

A delightful combination of crispy garlic bread and cheesy spaghetti that offers a comforting meal perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounce Italian bread loaf
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • ½ teaspoon minced fresh garlic
  • 16 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt (plus a pinch for the pasta water)
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 7 ounce uncooked spaghetti (broken into halves or thirds)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • â…” cup shredded Mozzarella cheese (divided)

Instructions

  1. Slice off the top third of the Italian bread loaf lengthwise and hollow out the bottom two-thirds leaving a 1-inch thick shell.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter and garlic powder to make garlic butter. Brush the garlic butter inside the hollowed-out bread base and the lid.
  3. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, then drain grease. Add onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  5. Boil salted water and cook spaghetti until al dente, then drain and mix into the meat sauce until well-coated.
  6. Stir in half of the grated Parmesan and half of the shredded Mozzarella until melted. Spoon filling into the bread base, top with remaining cheeses, and place the lid back on.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until bread is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, consider using Italian sausage instead of ground beef or adding red pepper flakes for a spicier kick.
