- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- 2 ½ cups decorative icing (optional)
- Sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set this mixture aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually blend the dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients.
- If the dough is too dry, add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you get a workable dough.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls and place them on ungreased cookie sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Edges should be light brown.
- Remove from oven and allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
- Once cooled, you can decorate with icing or sprinkles if desired.
