Description
A flavorful twist on the traditional shepherd’s pie, this dish combines savory ground turkey with a creamy sweet potato topping.
Ingredients

- 2 lb sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 onion, diced into 1/2-inch pieces
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1.5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp poultry seasoning
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 12 oz frozen vegetables
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup broth
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Boil sweet potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to pot.
- Add 3 tablespoons of olive oil and 1/2 cup of milk to sweet potatoes and mash until smooth. Season with salt and set aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and diced onion. Cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add ground turkey and cook, stirring, until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
- Mix in garlic powder, salt, Worcestershire sauce, poultry seasoning, and soy sauce, stirring to combine.
- Stir in frozen vegetables and cook for another 5 minutes.
- In a bowl, whisk together milk, cornstarch, and broth until smooth. Pour into skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens. Add black pepper to taste.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Pour turkey mixture into a baking dish and spread mashed sweet potatoes on top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until sweet potato topping is slightly browned. Let cool before serving.
Notes
You can prepare this pie a day in advance. It also freezes well for up to 3 months.
