Description

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Whipped cream (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crust: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, and sugar. Mix until a crumbly texture forms. Add the egg yolk and mix until a dough forms. Press the dough into a tart pan evenly. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Make the Custard: While the crust is baking, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling. Whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a separate bowl. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while stirring continuously.
  3. Thicken the Custard: Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat while stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Assemble the Tart: Allow the crust to cool completely before pouring in the custard. Once poured, let it set for at least a couple of hours. Top with fresh strawberry slices and serve with whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For best flavor, always use fresh strawberries. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to three days.
