Description
Delicious spicy meatballs made with ground beef or turkey, cheese, and jalapeños, perfect for gatherings and parties.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup diced jalapeños (fresh or pickled)
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooking oil for frying or baking
- Toothpicks (for presentation, optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or turkey with cream cheese, jalapeños, shredded cheddar cheese, cornmeal, cilantro, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) if you prefer to bake the donkey balls. Otherwise, heat a deep frying pan with enough oil to submerge the balls for frying.
- With clean hands, take a small portion of the mixture (about the size of a golf ball) and roll it into a ball shape. Repeat this process until all the mixture is used.
- For baking: Place the balls on a greased baking sheet, ensuring they are evenly spaced. Bake in the oven for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- For frying: Carefully lower the balls into the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until the balls are crispy and golden brown on the outside. Remove them with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels.
- Serve the spicy Mexican donkey balls hot, optionally skewered with toothpicks for easy eating. You can pair them with your favorite dipping sauce, such as salsa, guacamole, or sour cream.
Notes
Let the mixture chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes before shaping for easier rolling.
