Description
A delicious blend of tangy sourdough flavor with creamy cheese and juicy tomatoes, perfect for soups or salads.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sourdough starter, active and bubbly
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 1 cup diced tomatoes (fresh or canned)
- Optional herbs (like basil or oregano) for added flavor
Instructions
- Combine the active sourdough starter with warm water in a large mixing bowl. Mix until well blended.
- Add the all-purpose flour and salt gradually. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Fold in the shredded cheese and diced tomatoes, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 240-360 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat.
- Let the shaped dough rest for about 30 minutes while the oven heats.
- Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside, and cover it with the lid.
- Bake for 30 minutes with the lid on, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the bread is golden brown.
- Once baked, let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing.
