Description

A delicious and healthy take on classic smash burgers, combining hearty ingredients with fresh components for a guilt-free meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Ground Beef (or ground turkey or plant-based crumbles)
  • 4 medium Red Potatoes (or riced cauliflower for low-carb)
  • 1 medium Onion (diced, caramelized)
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese (Colby Jack or pepper jack)
  • 1/2 cup Mayo (or Greek yogurt)
  • 1/4 cup Ketchup (low-sugar)
  • 1 tbsp Mustard (Dijon for a twist)
  • 1 tbsp Cajun Seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup Pickles (or cucumbers)
  • 2 cups Lettuce (any mix of leafy greens)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the potatoes. If using red potatoes, wash them well and chop them into bite-sized pieces. Place them in a pot, cover with water, and boil until tender, about 15-20 minutes. If using riced cauliflower, simply steam it according to package instructions.
  2. While the potatoes are cooking, prepare the ground beef (or your protein choice). In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. If using ground turkey or plant-based crumbles, follow the same steps.
  3. In the same skillet, add the diced onion and sauté until caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Once the beef is fully cooked, stir in the Cajun seasoning and combine well for added flavor.
  5. To assemble the bowl, start with a base of the cooked potatoes or riced cauliflower. Add a generous portion of the seasoned beef on top.
  6. Next, layer on the caramelized onions, followed by a handful of lettuce.
  7. Top the bowl with shredded cheese, pickles, and a drizzle of mayo mixed with mustard and ketchup for that classic burger flavor.
  8. Serve immediately and enjoy the savory experience of a burger in a bowl!

Notes

For variations, try a low carb version with riced cauliflower or a vegan option with lentils or chickpeas.
