Description

Delicious savory pies filled with a hearty mixture of ground beef, rice, and vegetables, all wrapped in flaky puff pastry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon allspice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups calrose rice, soaked in water for 2 hours
  • 2 1/4 cups boiling water
  • 1 pound frozen peas
  • 1 cup finely diced carrots (optional, same size as peas)
  • 10 puff pastry squares
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Season the beef with allspice and salt, then stir in the frozen peas and diced carrots. Cook until vegetables are tender, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. In a saucepan, combine the soaked rice and 2 1/4 cups of boiling water. Cook until fluffy, about 10–12 minutes, then let it cool slightly.
  5. Mix the cooked rice with the beef and vegetable mixture.
  6. Place a puff pastry square on a clean surface. Add 2–3 tablespoons of the filling to the center and fold the corners over to form a parcel. Press or crimp the edges to seal.
  7. Arrange the pies on the baking tray and brush the tops with the beaten egg for shine.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. Serve warm with yogurt or salad.

Notes

For best results, ensure the pastry stays cold before use and avoid overfilling the pies.
