Description

A comforting one-pan meal with ground beef and cabbage, simmered to perfection with tomatoes and spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head of green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes (with liquid)
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Start by chopping the cabbage, onion, and mincing the garlic.
  2. Brown the ground beef: In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks.
  3. Add the vegetables: Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  4. Combine with cabbage and tomatoes: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring to combine. Then, pour in the can of diced tomatoes (with their liquid), beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Sprinkle in thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  5. Simmer: Cover the skillet and let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally, allowing the cabbage to soften and the flavors to meld together.
  6. Cheese topping (optional): If you’re a fan of cheese, sprinkle shredded cheddar on top during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Cover again to let the cheese melt.
  7. Serve: Once the cabbage is tender and everything is heated through, serve hot from the skillet. Enjoy your savory cabbage beef!

Notes

For a heartier meal, consider adding diced carrots, bell peppers, or zucchini. Adjust the spices to your preference and enjoy with your favorite sides.
