- 12 oz (340 g) pasta
- 1 pound (450 g) Italian sausage
- 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup pasta water (reserved before draining)
- Optional: zest of 1 lemon for a fresh finish
Instructions
- Cook the Pasta: Fill a large pot with salted water, bring it to a boil, add the pasta, and cook according to package instructions. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water before draining.
- Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil, add Italian sausage, and cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
- Add Garlic and Broccoli: Stir in minced garlic and red pepper flakes for 30 seconds, then add broccoli and a sprinkle of water. Cover and cook for 3-4 minutes.
- Mix Everything Together: Add cooked pasta to the skillet, pour in some reserved pasta water, and stir until well combined.
- Season and Serve: Stir in Parmesan cheese, adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, and add lemon zest if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can also freeze for up to 3 months.
