Description

A classic American dish featuring seasoned ground beef patties smothered in rich gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, milk, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix well.
  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Add the sliced mushrooms and onion to the skillet. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Return the browned patties to the skillet. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes, until cooked through.
  8. If desired, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry. Stir into the skillet and cook for an additional minute until thickened.
  9. Serve hot with gravy poured over the top.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding different types of mushrooms or herbs.
