Description

A classic American dish combining hearty meatballs with creamy mashed potatoes for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (such as parsley and thyme), chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare meatball mixture: In a bowl, mix the ground beef with breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Combine everything well until all the ingredients are mixed.
  3. Form meatballs: Take a small amount of the mixture and roll it into meatballs. Place the formed meatballs on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake meatballs: Put the baking sheet in the oven and bake the meatballs for about 20 minutes or until they are cooked through. You can check by cutting one open to ensure it’s no longer pink inside.
  5. Make the gravy: In a skillet, heat the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce over medium heat. Once it’s bubbling, whisk in the flour to thicken the sauce. Stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  6. Simmer meatballs in gravy: After the meatballs have baked, carefully add them to the skillet with the gravy. Let them simmer for a few minutes, coating the meatballs with the delicious sauce.
  7. Boil potatoes: While the meatballs are simmering, bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cubed potatoes and cook until they are tender.
  8. Mash the potatoes: Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them well. In a mixing bowl, mash the potatoes with milk, butter, minced garlic, and fresh herbs until smooth and creamy.
  9. Serve: Place a generous scoop of garlic herb mashed potatoes on a plate. Top with the Salisbury steak meatballs and pour some gravy over the top.
