Ingredients

Scale
  • pounds ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • ½ cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 beef bouillon cube, crushed
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 2 beef bouillon cubes

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced into half-moons
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, 1 tablespoon of ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, crushed bouillon cube, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently.
  2. Shape mixture into 4 to 6 oval patties, about 1 inch thick.

  4. Remove patties and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, sauté sliced onions over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Add minced garlic and mushrooms, cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Pour in hot water and add beef bouillon cubes, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir well.
  8. Mix cornstarch with cold water until smooth, then add to the gravy, stirring until thickened.
  9. Return patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 3-5 minutes.
  10. Serve hot with the gravy poured over the patties.
