- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for rolling
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until uniformly mixed.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop portions of the chilled dough and roll into 1 to 1.5-inch balls. Roll each ball in powdered sugar.
- Place dough balls on prepared baking sheets, leaving space between them. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set and centers are slightly underbaked.
- Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days. For longer storage, freeze in a single layer and use parchment paper to prevent sticking.
