Description
Homemade peppermint patties that are quick to make and perfect for mint chocolate lovers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch fine sea salt
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening
- 2 tablespoons crushed candy canes or peppermint candies (optional)
- 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Beat the softened butter in a mixing bowl until it is smooth and creamy.
- Create the peppermint mixture by gradually adding powdered sugar, peppermint extract, vanilla, salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream or milk. Mix until a soft, pliable dough forms.
- Roll out the peppermint dough between two sheets of parchment paper to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut out circles using a small round cutter or the rim of a small glass. Re-roll any scraps until all dough is used.
- Chill the rounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet in the fridge or freezer for 5–10 minutes until firm.
- Melt the semi-sweet chocolate and coconut oil together in a microwave-safe bowl or over a double boiler, stirring until smooth.
- Dip each chilled peppermint round into melted chocolate using a fork. Let excess chocolate drip off before placing back onto parchment.
- Add crushed candy canes or flaky sea salt on top while chocolate is still wet, if using.
- Set the patties at room temperature or in the fridge until the chocolate is completely set.
- Store the peppermint patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to serve.
Notes
Work quickly when adding toppings, as the chocolate can set fast. Use softened butter for best mixing results.
