A delicious fusion of grilled cheese and pizza, featuring beef pepperoni and gooey mozzarella.
Ingredients
- Thick slices of sourdough or Italian bread
- Beef pepperoni
- Fresh mozzarella or shredded mozzarella
- Pizza sauce or marinara sauce
- Unsalted butter
- Turkey pepperoni (optional)
- Provolone or a blend of Italian cheeses (optional)
- Low-sodium pizza sauce (optional)
- Vegan butter or olive oil (for dairy-free alternative)
Instructions
- Gather your ingredients.
- Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- On the unbuttered side of one slice, spread a generous amount of pizza sauce.
- Place a slice of mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
- Add a layer of beef pepperoni over the cheese.
- Top with another slice of mozzarella cheese and place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich in the skillet.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
- Flip the sandwich and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes.
- Remove from skillet, let sit for a minute, then slice and serve with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Notes
For a lighter version, use turkey pepperoni or a blend of Italian cheeses. Vegan alternatives are also available for dairy-free options.
