Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger until well combined. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, orange zest, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Use a tablespoon to portion out the dough. Roll each portion into a ball, then roll it in granulated sugar to coat.
- Place the sugared dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can improve flavor and prevent spreading during baking.
