Description

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger until well combined. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, orange zest, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Use a tablespoon to portion out the dough. Roll each portion into a ball, then roll it in granulated sugar to coat.
  7. Place the sugared dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can improve flavor and prevent spreading during baking.
