Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 2 cups rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons shawarma spice mix
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or cilantro) for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the chicken thighs with the shawarma spice mix, salt, and pepper. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Heat some oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until translucent.
  3. Add the marinated chicken to the pot and cook until browned on all sides.
  4. Stir in the rice and chicken broth, bringing to a boil.
  5. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer until the rice is cooked and the chicken is tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  6. Mix yogurt and lemon juice in a separate bowl for the sauce.
  7. Serve the chicken and rice topped with the yogurt sauce and fresh herbs.

Notes
