- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh herbs (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and instant yeast.
- Add the lukewarm water and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Fold in the shredded cheese and herbs, if using.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours, until the surface is dotted with bubbles.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat.
- Once preheated, carefully remove the Dutch oven, and place the dough inside (you can shape it if desired).
- Cover with the lid and bake for 30 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the bread cool on a rack before slicing and enjoy.
Notes
For variety, experiment with different cheeses and herbs, or try adding cooked vegetables.
