Description

A delightful brunch casserole combining sweet and savory flavors with ham, turkey, and creamy cheeses.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Challah or Brioche bread (cut into 1-inch cubes, about 12 cups)
  • 1/2 lb thinly sliced deli ham
  • 1/2 lb thinly sliced deli turkey
  • 8 oz Swiss cheese (shredded)
  • 4 oz Gruyère cheese (shredded)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Raspberry jam or preserves (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Dish: Start by greasing a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. Layer the Bread: Arrange half of the bread cubes in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared dish.
  3. Add the Meats and Cheese: Top the bread layer with an even layer of sliced ham, followed by sliced turkey, and sprinkle half of the Swiss and Gruyère cheeses over the meat layer.
  4. Finish with More Bread: Scatter the remaining bread cubes over the cheese layer.
  5. Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, Dijon mustard, vanilla extract, salt, and pepper.
  6. Combine and Refrigerate: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers in the baking dish and cover with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  7. Bake the Casserole: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If refrigerated overnight, let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking. Uncover and bake for 50-60 minutes.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before slicing, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with raspberry jam or preserves.

Notes

Ensure to use fresh Challah or Brioche bread for the best flavor and texture.
