A quick and easy recipe for Mongolian Beef that features tender slices of beef in a rich, sweet, and savory sauce.

- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup broccoli florets (optional)
- 1 cup bell peppers, sliced (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced flank steak with cornstarch until evenly coated. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
- In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the beef to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of oil. Add minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in the soy sauce, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- If desired, add broccoli and bell peppers to the sauce, cooking for about 3-4 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
- Return the cooked beef to the skillet, tossing to coat it well in the sauce. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Stir in the chopped green onions, cooking for an additional minute.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary—add more soy sauce or sugar based on your preference.
- Remove from heat and serve immediately.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, substitute beef with tofu or tempeh. Feel free to add more vegetables to enhance the dish.
