Description
A delightful recipe for baking homemade bread in mason jars, soft and fluffy, perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Add the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, salt, and olive oil to the bowl. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 60 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide it into equal portions depending on how many mason jar breads you want to make.
- Shape each portion into a ball and place it into the mason jars.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Let the dough in the jars rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
- Allow the breads to cool slightly before removing them from the jars. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Ensure the water is warm but not too hot; temperatures over 120°F (49°C) can kill the yeast.
