Description
A delicious homemade spaghetti sauce made with simple ingredients that is healthier than store-bought versions.

- 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
- 1 pound lean ground turkey or beef (93% lean recommended)
- 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes, preferably fire-roasted
- ¼ cup water
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1½ teaspoons dried oregano
- 1½ teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground turkey or beef and break it up with a wooden spoon until fully browned.
- Lower the heat to medium-low.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, water, tomato paste, minced garlic, oregano, basil, parsley, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper.
- Cover the skillet and let the sauce simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve the sauce warm over cooked pasta or vegetables.
Notes
For a heartier sauce, consider adding chopped onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms. This sauce can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
