Description

A gourmet twist on classic Sloppy Joes, featuring caramelized onions, seasoned ground beef, and melted Swiss cheese on a warm bun, perfect for weeknights or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring often, until they are golden and caramelized.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to release its flavor.
  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until the beef is fully browned.
  5. Once the beef is browned, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  6. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. While the beef mixture is simmering, toast the hamburger buns until golden brown.
  8. Scoop the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with shredded Swiss cheese and place the top bun on.
  9. If desired, garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Customize with your favorite toppings like jalapeños or pickles. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge, or freeze for up to 3 months.
