Description

These cookie bars bring holiday taste in every bite, mixing soft, chewy cookie dough with chocolate chips, nuts, and bright sprinkles for a festive treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup festive sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) so it’s fully heated by the time the dough is ready.
  2. Line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper, leaving extra over the sides to lift the bars out easily after baking.
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to a medium bowl. Whisk until everything is evenly blended.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes light and airy.
  5. Blend in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and uniform.
  6. Pour the dry mixture into the wet mixture gradually. Stir gently until the flour disappears into the dough. Avoid overmixing.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips and the optional nuts. The dough will be thick but manageable.
  8. Spread the dough into the prepared pan, smoothing it into the corners. Scatter festive sprinkles over the top for color.
  9. Place the pan in the oven and bake for 25–30 minutes. The top should look lightly golden, and a toothpick inserted near the center should come out with soft crumbs attached.
  10. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Use the parchment to lift them onto a cooling rack, let them cool completely, then slice into squares or rectangles.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for best mixing. Cover any extras in case you replace some ingredients.
