Description

A comforting and hearty casserole combining ground beef, potatoes, and cheese, perfect for busy weeknights.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes). After browning, drain the excess fat.
  3. Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté this mixture for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion softens.
  4. Layer the thinly sliced potatoes over the beef mixture in the baking dish.
  5. Season the layered potatoes with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning for extra flavor.
  6. Top the potatoes with shredded cheddar and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Pour beef broth around the edges of the dish to keep the potatoes moist during baking.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. After this time, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender.

Notes

Slice potatoes thinly for even cooking. Don’t skip the broth to keep potatoes moist.
