Description

A nutrient-dense dish combining beef liver with caramelized onions and garlic, providing various health benefits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Beef liver (Fresh or well-thawed)
  • 1 cup Whole milk (Can substitute with buttermilk)
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar (Optional for soaking)
  • 2 medium Yellow onions (Can swap with sweet onions or shallots)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (Fresh minced or garlic powder)
  • 1 cup Beef broth (Or vegetable broth for a lighter version)
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour (Gluten-free flour alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (For rich flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil (Can substitute with ghee or canola oil)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (To taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper (Freshly ground for best flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika (Adds depth and subtle smoky note)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (Adjust as desired for umami flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh parsley (Optional but recommended for plating)

Instructions

  1. Soak beef liver in whole milk mixed with apple cider vinegar for about 30 minutes.
  2. Peel and slice the onions into thin rings.
  3. Mix all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika on a plate. Dredge the soaked liver slices in this mixture.
  4. In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Add minced garlic to the onions and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  6. Push the onions to one side of the skillet, add the coated liver slices, and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through.
  7. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring gently. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
  8. Remove from heat, garnish with parsley if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

Do not skip the soaking step and avoid overcooking the liver for the best texture.
