Description

A delightful twist on traditional French toast using Hawaiian rolls, resulting in a sweet and indulgent breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of Hawaiian sweet rolls (12 rolls)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
  • Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruit, or whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Cut the Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally and place in a baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the rolls and let soak for 15 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 2 hours.
  4. Preheat your skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter.
  5. Once hot, place the soaked roll halves cut side down in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Repeat with remaining rolls and keep warm.
  7. Serve warm with your choice of toppings.

Notes

For best results, soak the rolls longer or refrigerate them before cooking. Avoid cooking on high heat to prevent burning.
