Description
Delicious Greek chicken gyros made with marinated chicken, fresh vegetables, and tzatziki sauce, all wrapped in warm pita bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound chicken breast
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 4 pita breads
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- 1 cucumber, diced
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup tzatziki sauce
Instructions
- Start by marinating the chicken breast. In a bowl, mix olive oil, minced garlic, oregano, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken breast to this mixture and make sure it’s well coated. Cover and let it marinate for at least 1 hour.
- After marinating, heat your grill or a pan over medium heat. Grill or pan-cook the marinated chicken until it’s fully cooked and has a nice golden brown color, which should take about 6-8 minutes on each side.
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into strips.
- While the chicken is resting, warm up the pita bread.
- Now it’s time to assemble your gyros! Take a piece of warm pita bread, add a generous amount of sliced chicken, chopped fresh vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion, and finish it off with a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce.
- Roll up the pita, and your delicious Greek chicken gyros are ready to enjoy!
Notes
For best flavor, marinate the chicken overnight.
