Description
A fun and delicious treat, perfect for any occasion, particularly during fall festivities or Halloween.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium apples
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles or edible glitter (optional)
- Wooden sticks or skewers
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove stems and insert wooden sticks into the tops of the apples.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Allow the mixture to come to a boil without stirring. Monitor the temperature until it reaches 300°F (149°C) for hard candy.
- If desired, add food coloring and vanilla extract once the desired temperature is reached.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully dip each apple into the candy coating, rotating to ensure full coverage.
- Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with decorations while the candy is still warm.
- Allow the apples to cool completely before serving.
Notes
Store the candy apples in a cool, dry place. They can last about a week when stored properly, but are best enjoyed fresh within the first few days.
