Description

A classic dessert featuring aromatic spices and a rich molasses flavor, perfect for the holiday season.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup unsulfured molasses
  • Sanding sugar for rolling
  • Hershey’s Hugs kisses for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and molasses until well blended.
  4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Roll the dough into balls, then roll in sanding sugar to coat.
  6. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and flatten them slightly.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, then remove from the oven and immediately top each cookie with a Hershey’s Hug.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Avoid over-mixing the dough for soft and chewy cookies. Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing.
