Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add the eggs one at a time, stirring well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually blend the dry mixture into the wet mixture until just combined, then fold in the chocolate chips if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick.
- Let cool in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.
