Description

Crispy, cheesy bites of mac and cheese that are perfect for snacking or as a fun appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni: Start by boiling water in a pot. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to the package instructions, usually around 8-10 minutes. Once done, drain the macaroni and set it aside.
  2. Make the cheesy mixture: In a large saucepan, melt some butter over medium heat. Add the cooked macaroni into the saucepan. Then, stir in shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Keep stirring until the cheese melts and the mixture is well combined.
  3. Form the balls: Allow this cheesy mixture to cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, take small portions of the mixture and with your hands, form them into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
  4. Coat with breadcrumbs: Place breadcrumbs on a plate. Roll each mac and cheese ball in the breadcrumbs to coat them evenly.
  5. Fry the balls: Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place a few mac and cheese balls in the oil. Fry them until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes. Flip them if needed to ensure even cooking.
  6. Drain and serve: Remove the balls from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Allow the mixture to cool completely before forming balls to maintain their shape. Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
