- 2 cups macaroni pasta
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 cups Gruyère cheese, grated
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni pasta according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and sugar, cooking until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
- Stir in the beef broth and thyme, letting it simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Stir in the cooked macaroni and half of the grated Gruyère, mixing well.
- Transfer to a baking dish and top with the remaining Gruyère cheese.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
