  4. Slowly pour the hot sugar mixture into the egg whites while continuously beating.
  5. Add vanilla extract and continue beating until the mixture holds its shape.
  6. Fold in any nuts if using.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto wax paper and let cool until set.
