Description

Ingredients

  • 1 box puff pastry (2 sheets, approximately 17.3 oz)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry fruit filling
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons turbinado sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 4 to 5 teaspoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to package instructions and unfold on a lightly floured surface.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and almond extract until smooth and creamy.
  4. Cut each puff pastry sheet into three equal strips lengthwise, leaving space at each end to braid.
  5. Spread the cream cheese mixture down the center strip of each pastry and top with cherry filling.
  6. Cut diagonal slits on each side of the filling, about 1 inch apart, and braid the pastry by folding the strips over the filling.
  7. Beat the large egg and brush it over the braided pastry for a golden finish.
  8. Sprinkle with turbinado sugar and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  9. Mix powdered sugar and milk for the glaze and drizzle over the cooled Danish.
