Description

Delicious crispy sesame cauliflower bites that are perfect as a snack, appetizer, or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 head of cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 1 cup oil for frying (omit if baking)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil or vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the eggs.
  3. Dip each cauliflower floret into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture.
  4. To bake: Preheat the oven to 420°F (215°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Place the breaded cauliflower on the tray, lightly spray with cooking spray or drizzle with oil, and bake for 30 minutes, turning halfway through.
  5. To fry: Heat 1 cup of oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat. Fry the cauliflower in batches for 3-5 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels afterward.
  6. In a medium pan, heat the sesame or vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sauté for about 1 minute.
  7. Stir in honey, vinegar, soy sauce, water, and cornstarch. Bring to a boil, whisking continuously until thickened.
  8. Once the cauliflower is cooked, toss it in a large bowl with the prepared sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve immediately.

Notes

For a healthier option, baking is recommended. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
