Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 head of cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
- 1 cup oil for frying (omit if baking)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil or vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
- 2 tablespoons honey or sugar
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
Instructions
- In a large shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs.
- Dip each cauliflower floret into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture.
- To bake: Preheat the oven to 420°F (215°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Place the breaded cauliflower on the tray, lightly spray with cooking spray or drizzle with oil, and bake for 30 minutes, turning halfway through.
- To fry: Heat 1 cup of oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat. Fry the cauliflower in batches for 3-5 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels afterward.
- In a medium pan, heat the sesame or vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sauté for about 1 minute.
- Stir in honey, vinegar, soy sauce, water, and cornstarch. Bring to a boil, whisking continuously until thickened.
- Once the cauliflower is cooked, toss it in a large bowl with the prepared sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve immediately.
