Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
- 2 cups uncooked penne or rotini pasta
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 2½ cups water or chicken broth
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Optional chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Add the uncooked pasta and the cooked chicken to the baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
- Pour the marinara sauce and water or chicken broth over the pasta and chicken, ensuring most of the pasta is submerged.
- Sprinkle in the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper, then stir everything together.
- Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
- After 35 minutes, remove the foil, stir the casserole, and sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella and all the Parmesan on top.
- Return to the oven uncovered and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
Allowing the casserole to rest before serving helps the sauce settle, making it easier to slice and serve.
