Description
The dofinwar potatoes recipe (also known as dauphinoise potatoes) is a French classic made with thinly sliced potatoes baked in cream, garlic, and cheese. Creamy, indulgent, and perfect as a side dish.
Ingredients
2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Maris Piper)
2 cups heavy cream
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup Gruyère or Parmesan cheese, grated
2 tbsp butter
Salt and black pepper to taste
Fresh thyme for garnish (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and butter a baking dish.
2. Peel and slice potatoes into 1/8-inch slices.
3. Rub the dish with garlic and butter for extra flavor.
4. Layer the potatoes evenly in the dish.
5. Season with salt and pepper, then pour cream over layers.
6. Sprinkle Gruyère cheese across the top.
7. Bake for 60–70 minutes until golden and potatoes are tender.
8. Rest 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a lighter version, replace some cream with milk.
Add nutmeg to the cream for a traditional French flavor.
Pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled steak, or marinated chicken.
Best served hot but can be stored and reheated.
