Description

A delightful way to enjoy a classic dessert in bar form with a perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors, topped with a crunchy crumble.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • 4 Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
  • 4 Fuji apples, peeled and sliced
  • 4 Gala apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp allspice (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (optional)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper.
  3. Prepare the pie crust by unrolling two store-bought pie crusts, overlapping them, and pressing them together. Press into the pan and trim excess dough.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  5. Pour the apple mixture over the crust and drizzle with half of the caramel sauce.
  6. In a medium bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the crumble topping. Cut in cubed butter until crumbly, adding oats if desired.
  7. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples and drizzle with additional caramel sauce.
  8. Bake for 45-60 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack for 2-3 hours before slicing into bars and serving.

Notes

Choose a variety of apples for the best flavor. Let the bars cool completely before cutting to ensure they hold their shape.
