- 2 cups Whole milk
- 1 cup Heavy cream
- 1/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon Pure vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- Whipped cream (for topping)
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups of whole milk and 1 cup of heavy cream. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until just about to simmer.
- Add 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Stir continuously until smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Sweeten if desired.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, about three-quarters full.
- Top with whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
For added flavor, consider variations like spicy hot chocolate or peppermint hot chocolate. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
