Description

A hearty and delicious dish featuring navy beans cooked slowly in a crockpot, perfect for gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried navy beans
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1/2 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the beans: Rinse the navy beans under cold water and soak them in water overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the beans: After soaking, drain and rinse the beans again.
  3. Place them in the crockpot for cooking.
  4. Combine ingredients: Add water, chopped onion, molasses, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, ketchup, and mustard into the crockpot.
  5. Add bacon (if using): Add the crumbled bacon to the mix for added flavor.
  6. Stir well: Make sure all ingredients are mixed together.
  7. Cook: Cover the crockpot and set it to cook on low for 8-10 hours.
  8. Serve warm: Once done, serve the beans warm.

Notes

You can adjust sweetness with more brown sugar or molasses. Avoid overfilling the crockpot.
