Description
Deliciously crispy mini bloomin’ onions served with a creamy buttermilk ranch dip, perfect for snacks or appetizers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp dried dill
- 1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Prep the onions: Begin by slicing off the tops of the onions and carefully removing the outer skin. Create a blossom pattern by making vertical cuts partway through the onion.
- Soak in buttermilk: Soak the prepared onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- Mix the dry ingredients: In a bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Heat the oil: In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Dredge and fry the onions: Remove the onions from buttermilk, dredge in the flour mixture, and fry in hot oil until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes).
- Make the ranch dip: Combine mayonnaise, dried dill, fresh chives, and lemon juice in a bowl. Stir until blended and creamy.
- Serve: Serve crispy mini bloomin’ onions hot with buttermilk ranch dip on the side.
Notes
For best results, serve immediately after frying for maximum crispiness. Avoid reheating in the microwave.
