Description

A delightful stuffing made with crispy bread and fresh herbs, perfect for festive gatherings or as a special dinner side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz French bread, cubed and dried
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 large egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread: Start by cubing the French bread into 1-inch pieces. Let it sit out overnight to dry naturally or bake at 300°F for 20 minutes.
  2. Cook the vegetables: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and celery, cooking for about 8 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the flavor: Stir in the minced garlic, chopped sage, rosemary, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Combine the ingredients: In a large bowl, add the dried bread cubes and pour the sautéed mixture over them. Toss gently to coat evenly, then add the chopped parsley.
  5. Mix the broth and egg: In a separate bowl, whisk together the broth and beaten egg to bind the mixture.
  6. Combine everything: Pour the broth and egg mixture over the bread mixture and gently toss until evenly moistened.
  7. Transfer and bake: Transfer the stuffing into a buttered 9×13-inch baking dish, cover with foil, and bake at 375°F for 25 minutes.
  8. Final baking: Uncover the dish and bake for another 20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Serve hot: Let it cool for a moment before serving hot.

Notes

Use stale or dried bread for best results and be careful not to overmix the stuffing.
