Ingredients

  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 2 cups thinly sliced russet or Yukon gold potatoes
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and chopped onion until browned; season with salt, pepper, and paprika, then drain excess fat.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, milk (or heavy cream), and sour cream until smooth.
  4. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the beef mixture, followed by the sliced potatoes.
  5. Pour the creamy mixture over the potatoes, spreading it evenly.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is golden brown.
  9. Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

Potatoes should be sliced thinly for even cooking. Customize the dish by adding vegetables or different proteins.
