Description
A delightful comfort food combining cheese tortellini, Italian sausage, and broccoli in a creamy garlic Parmesan sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package cheese tortellini (about 20 oz)
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
- 3 cups broccoli florets
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, breaking into crumbles. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and sauté the minced garlic for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and fully combined. Season with salt, black pepper, and optionally, red pepper flakes.
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the tortellini according to package instructions. When the tortellini has 2-3 minutes left, add the broccoli florets to the pot. Drain together once cooked.
- Add the cooked sausage, drained tortellini, and broccoli into the skillet with the creamy sauce. Toss gently to coat everything well.
- Serve hot, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and cracked black pepper on top.
Notes
For a lighter dish, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream. Adjust seasoning to personal taste.
