Description

A delightful comfort food combining cheese tortellini, Italian sausage, and broccoli in a creamy garlic Parmesan sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 package cheese tortellini (about 20 oz)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 3 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned and cooked through, breaking into crumbles. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and sauté the minced garlic for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and fully combined. Season with salt, black pepper, and optionally, red pepper flakes.
  4. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook the tortellini according to package instructions. When the tortellini has 2-3 minutes left, add the broccoli florets to the pot. Drain together once cooked.
  5. Add the cooked sausage, drained tortellini, and broccoli into the skillet with the creamy sauce. Toss gently to coat everything well.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and cracked black pepper on top.

Notes

For a lighter dish, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream. Adjust seasoning to personal taste.
