Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla extract, almond extract, and orange zest to the butter mixture and mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing gently until the dough comes together.
- Fold in the chopped dried cranberries and nuts (if using) with a spatula.
- Shape the dough into a log about 2 inches in diameter, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Once chilled, slice the dough into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are lightly golden, ensuring centers remain pale.
- Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
