- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1/4 cup buttermilk (or substitute with 1/4 cup milk mixed with 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring (pink and blue)
- Cotton candy flavoring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and combine well.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
- Divide the dough and color one half pink and the other half blue using gel food coloring.
- Form the cookie discs by layering the colored dough and rolling them into balls.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set.
- Cool on a wire rack before serving.
