- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fruit jam (for filling)
- Sugar (for rolling)
- Oil (for frying)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until warm.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Pour the warm milk mixture into the dry ingredients and add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until you form a sticky dough.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/2-inch thick and cut out circles using a round cutter.
- Let the cut donuts rest for another 30 minutes on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to around 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Drain the donuts on paper towels and fill each with fruit jam using a piping bag.
- Roll the filled donuts in sugar while warm and serve immediately.
