Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace with a clean, flat surface and gather all ingredients and tools including a saucepan, candy thermometer, baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and any desired decorations.
  2. Combine 2 cups of granulated sugar with 1 cup of water in the saucepan and stir gently to dissolve the sugar completely.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil without stirring.
  4. Insert the candy thermometer and boil until the temperature reaches 300°F (150°C).
  5. Add food coloring if desired and stir gently to incorporate colors.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before adding flavoring extracts.
  7. Pour the mixture onto a prepared baking sheet and let it set at room temperature without disturbance.
  8. Once hardened, break into desired shapes and dust with cornstarch if using.
